Mushroom red.png The Mushroom is a common monster encountered in the Mines.

Strategy

This monster will continuously hide underground from the player, only revealing itself to close in and strike whenever the player's back is turned. It attacks by building up and releasing its spores, causing a short-ranged area-of-affect (AoE) attack centered around it.

While the Mushroom is hiding underground, any normal attacks dealt to it by the player will deal zero damage, and knock the player back several steps instead.

You will want to pretend to ignore the Mushroom and let it get close. Once it starts to puff up to attack, spin around and attack it with your sword. Landing even a single hit will cause the Mushroom to fall on its back, becoming vulnerable, and you can continue to attack it from there. After taking a few hits, if it is not killed, it will bounce back up and hide again. Depending on your sword type (ex Worn, Copper, Iron, or Silver), it may take a couple of these 'fake-out' attacks before it dies.

Mushrooms can also be attacked and damaged even when hiding underground by using the Jump Attack (requires the Jump attack.png Jump Attack Skill). Using the 'fake-out' method, hit the Mushroom with a few normal attacks while its vulnerable, and then hit it with a Jump attack when it goes back to hiding to defeat the Mushroom swiftly and easily.

Variations in Strategy

Mushroom purple.png Expels a puddle of green liquid along with spores when attacking. The liquid deals constant damage as long as The Player is standing in it.
